Subvert Silicon Valley 2k17
Given the relatively short history of the computing industry, the ways in which women have been pulled in and pushed out of the field can be easily and clearly traced.
Perhaps the most clear example is programming. There's talk about getting women and girls into coding, as though they were never in it. However, initially considered feminized labor and dominated by women, as the field began to strive for "credibility" and recognition, pushing women out and denying their history in the space was obviously necessary. Stereotypes such as that of the young, nerdy, absolutely male hacker were carefully developed and still persist today.
We all want to blend in, but sometimes it's hard to keep a straight face. And sometimes there are fingerprints.
